Dollar Horticultural Society
Dollar Horticultural Society as it was once known is now over 125 years old and still attracting around 150 entries to the Annual Flower Show.
In the early years at Dollar there was a dairy section which attracted a lot of interest from the surrounding farms and estates with classes for cheese, butter and eggs. The prizes were also prestigious as can be seen from the medal* for the most points in the show which the prize winner kept for life.
The present committee have tried to keep up to date with trends and have introduced a very popular photography class that replaced the wine class which in turn had replaced the honey class.
The past few years have seen entries in the vegetable section increase as the interest in producing your own vegetables for the home has grown in popularity.
If you have a suggestion for a class that you think would be popular please speak to any committee member. We are keen to see the club continue in Dollar and need your support on the day of the show and throughout the year.

Friends of Dollar Flower Show
Friends of Dollar Flower Show provide essential help to the committee on our busier days. Please help to keep the show going by becoming a friend. A few hours per year can preserve the show for the enjoyment of the community. Please speak to any member of the committee if you would like to help at any event.
Parents
Please encourage your children to enter the childrens classes.
They are the future of our show.
Prize Money
We have simplified our approach to prize money. In adult classes we no longer offer prize money unless specified in the schedule. Instead each adult cup or trophy will be awarded a prize of £5.00. In children’s classes we continue to award prizes in each class, £1 for 1st, 50p for 2nd and 30p for 3rd. There will be a prize of £2 for each child’s cup.
There is no charge for entering.
Help and advice is available from any committee member at any time.
While these changes retain the traditional competitive aspects of the show, our aim is to encourage exhibits from all types of garden and gardeners with a view to informing, entertaining and stimulating those who come to the show. No garden is too small – no interest is too way-out to participate.
